✦ Synopsis
study was coincidentally performed by three groups independently in 1979, and the authors from the University of Southern Maine, University of Pittsburgh, and Purdue University published their results jointly in this article. Intrapleural pressure monitoring confirmed attenuation of fluctuations during CPR after thoracic venting. However, all three groups showed no significant change in systolic/diastolic blood pressure or carotid artery flow rate. The results support the classical mechanism of blood flow during CPR, ie, compression of the heart between the sternum and vertebral column.
Mitch Leavitt, MD nificant difference in hospital vs non-hospital death rates from D&E was noted~ however, death:case ratios were higher for non-white women. Comparison of death:case rates indicates that D&E between 13 and 15 weeks' gestation (beginning of second trimester) is safer than instillation techniques performed later in pregnancy but more dangerous than suction curettage done in the first trimester.
