Abstract
An action spectrum was established for the destruction by ultraviolet radiation of cytoplasmic components of the neural induction system in the eggs of the South African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis. The action spectrum showed a peak at 280 nm and a decline towards both 250 nm and 320 nm after quantum corrections were made. These results are compatible with the assumption that proteins are involved in the initial photoreaction.
