The blue-green algae Anncyslis nidulans and Annbaena doliolum can grow in concentrations of hydroxyurea and nalidixic acid that are highly toxic to bacteria and certain other organisms. These drugs apparently do not seein to be mutagenic in cyanophyta. Treat,. inent with hydroxyurea leads to the production of dense yellow mucilage in Anabaenu ctoliolunb.
