β¦ Synopsis
The phenomenon of flow-induced acoustic oscillations which may occur in a resonating device such as a wine bottle is of some general, as well as specific, interest. In this paper, the acoustic behaviour of the interior of a wine bottle is discussed, since this is an important feature of understanding, quantitatively, the nature of the oscillations. Three approaches to the problem are described, and it is shown that a simple one-dimensional analysis yields accurate predictions of the sound field in the bottle over a reasonably wide frequency range. The pressure amplitude, velocity amplitude and impedance distributions in the bottle may be calculated, for each frequency.
