✦ Synopsis

Internal friction Q-1 and change of sound velocity ti.v/v of metallic glasses are considered within the two-level system model. The effects of the interaction with conduction electrons are systematically taken into account. For acoustic frequencies and very low temperatures a lower bound in the tunneling matrix element leads to drastic changes of the temperature dependence of Q-1 and ti.v/v. The findings are in qualitative agreement with recent experimental data.
