✦ Synopsis

Experiments are described which allow to measure and visualize the dynamics of the total acoustic cavitation noise spectrum. A distinct threshold for broad-band noise much higher than the threshold for the first subharmonic has been found. At this noise threshold a broadening of all spectral lines is observed. A simple theoretical model which consists in adding up the main parts of the sound emitted by differently sized bubbles is reported. Similar noise spectra as observed experimentally are obtained.
