Abstract

In this paper some applications of the qualitative and quantitative paper chromatography of fatty acid anilides are described, viz.:

detection of esterified acetic acid in butterfat;

demonstration of esterified lower fatty acids in palm oil and cocoa‐butter;

determination of free lower fatty acids in fresh and heated butter, ghee, and soured skim milk.

The quantitative conversion of small amounts of fatty acids into their anilides and the quantitative isolation of the acids concerned from the raw materials were investigated and procedures developed.
