Abstract
A novel configuration of erbium‐doped fiber laser using fiber‐loop mirrors in a linear cavity that produces flat output power is demonstrated. Maximum output power of about 14 dBm with 0.7‐dB flatness is obtained from 1525 to 1565 nm without altering the cavity loss. A side‐mode suppression ratio of higher than 60 dB, where the noise floor generated from the laser system is efficiently suppressed, is obtained. No significant presence of residual amplified spontaneous emission at the output is observed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
