Outdoor sound propagation from road tra$c is modelled by solving a boundary integral equation formulation of the wave equation using boundary element techniques in two dimensions. In the "rst model, the source representing a tra$c stream can be considered as a coherent line source of sound. The resu

β¦ Synopsis
The Department of the Environment publication Calculation of Road Traffic Noise was published in 1975 as the prescribed method of calculating road tra~c noise in order to determine entitlement to noise insulation, The method described in that publication is now frequently used to determine the impact of new roads at the Public Inquiry stage.
Since publication, vehicle regulations have changed, as has tyre design. The accuracy of the calculation method is examined, taking into account these factors, and also possible errors owing to meteorological and road-surface effects.

A questionnaire-based study was performed in an area of about 16 ha near a main road in Tokyo to elucidate any relations between road traffic noise and the effects of this noise among women living on both sides of the road. Questions concerned annoyance, sleep disturbance, interference with daily ac
Path analysis was applied to data collected in a social survey on the community response to traffic noise along a trunk road in Tokyo. The data were collected from more than 390 female residents by means of a questionnaire. A path model was developed for the causal relation of the noise annoyance, d
The investigation comprised "eld measurements of road tra$c noise at over 60 sites in 8 cities in South-Eastern Nigeria and psychological survey, by questionnaires, of respondents living and working close to the sites. Instantaneous and 24 h noise measurements were made at the noisiest points, near
The extent of annoyance caused by road trac noise was investigated in 15 areas with a varying number of vehicles and dierent distances between the trac and houses. The goal was to compare two principles for expressing noise exposure. One was based on the conventional energy equivalent value in terms
This study was designed to assess the e!ects of road tra$c noise and frogs' croaking on the objective and subjective quality of sleep in a laboratory. The subjects were seven male students aged 19}21 years. They were exposed to recorded road tra$c noise and frogs' croaking, with 49)6 and 49)5 dB(A)
