The accumulation of fumonisin and fumonisin after B 1 (FB 1 ) B 2 (FB 2 ) inoculation of 14 maize hybrids with Fusarium moniliforme has been examined in Poland during the seasons 1992È1995. Fumonisins have been detected in all 14 hybrids in amounts ranging from 0É09 mg kg~1 to FB 1 ] 0É02 mg kg~1 FB 2 93É2 mg kg~1 Inoculated ears contained from \1% FB 1 ] 15É8 mg kg~1 FB 2 . up to 60% of Fusarium damaged (\mouldy) kernels (FDK). FumonisinsÏ levels in FDK ranged from 5É1 mg kg~1 up to FB 1 ] 1É4 mg kg~1 FB 2 196É0 mg kg~1 SigniÐcant inÑuence of the year of FB 1 ] 62É0 mg kg~1 FB 2 . inoculation on ear infection and fumonisins accumulation was observed. Only one hybrid (Mona) exhibited low disease score, low percentage of FDK (1É1È 2É6%) and low levels of fumonisins from 0É09 to 1É66 mg kg~1 and (FB 1 FB 2 from 0É02 to 0É42 mg kg~1) during 3 years of experiments.
