✦ Synopsis

The empirical result of Michelson and Morley is symbolized in the behaviour of a spherical light wave inside a rigid spherical mirror. This affords the model of an idealized instrument which is clock and yard-stick both in one. It is shown that the focussing of the spherical light wave is not disturbed by accelerating the rigid mirror.
