While the level of the inorganic elements in biomass depend on many factors, research within the Supergen Bioenergy Consortium 7 is aiming to understand how much the genotype and agronomy of energy crops influence the absolute and relative concentrations of the essential and minor elements (as well as biochemical components) and how much, in turn, these impact on behaviour in thermal conversion. Is there an intriguing possibility of growing the ideal biomass for a particular thermal conversion process?
