We have obtained high-resolution, moderate S/N spectroscopy of 5 near-turnoff stars in the intermediate metallicity ([Fe/H]โผ -0.8) globular cluster M 71. These data are used to derive the abundances of 10 elements. For the particular elements examined here, no evidence of star-to-star scatter is see

โฆ Synopsis
The oldest known populations of stars in the Galaxy are members of the globular clusters as well as the field hMo. An examination of certain abundance patterns in the globular cluster stars and the field halo stars reveal significant differences between these two old populations: they do not exhibit the same abundance patterns in certain key elements. The elements showing the most striking differences are carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and sodium, plus the heavier neutron-rich r-process species.
