โœฆ Synopsis

The paper presents an analysis of the longitudinal distribution of Ca u flocculi in the equatorial zone of ::k 20 heliographic degrees. Using the method of photographic surface integration, the regularity of the distribution of the flocctdi is investigated, considering various extents of statistical centring. On smoothing the material considerably, two longitudinal regions of preferred occurrence of Ca It floccuii, 180 ~ apart with a recurrence of 27.2 days, became outstanding. Comparisons were made of the papers of Bumba and Howard (1969), Dodson and Hedeman (1968), Svestka (1968), S3~kora (1971) and Vitinskij (1969), and the proportional effect of various methods of treatment on the results obtained was found. A periodic change in the distribution of the Ca II flocculae structure on the whole Sun was found with a mean period of 1.7 yr.

This paper discusses solar cosmic ray phenomena and related topics from the solar physical point of view. Basic physics of the solar atmosphere and solar flare phenomena are, therefore, considered in some detail. Since solar cosmic rays are usually produced by solar flares, we must first understand

The non-LTE equation of transfer in the presence of a magnetic field is presented. The theory is valid for arbitrary Zeeman patterns and the field is inhomogeneous. The Faraday effect is taken into account. The LTE source function (Planck function) is substituted by four functions, which generally d

The influence of individual heavy elements on the opacity of the solar core is investigated. Increases and decreases in abundances are considered quantitatively. The recently revised photospheric iron abundance and the possible effects of diffusion are included. Together, these two changes may incre
