Panofsky, of Los Altos, California, "For his contributions to high energy physics, and particularly for the solution of many complex engineering problems concerned with the design, construction and use of the eminently successful high energy linear electron accelerator at Stanford Universit.y".
No. 3517: Clamer Medal. This report recommended the award of the Francis J. Clamer Medal each to Robert D. Heidenreich, of Murray Hill, New Jersey, and Peter B. Hirsch, of Oxford, England, "For their pioneering concepts on the dynamical theory of electron diffraction and their brilliant development of the resulting thin film transmission electron microscopy".
