This report recommended the award of an Elliott Cresson Medal to James Gilbert Baker, of Winchester, Massachusetts, "For a lifetime of contribution to the design of optical instruments, and, in particular, for his many innovations in the design of astronomical instruments of all types, which have greatly increased the effectiveness of the tools of astronomy; for his contributions to the design of cameras for use in satellite tracking and aerial mapping; for his contribution to the mathematics of optical design, and to the methods of automatic computation."
