✦ Synopsis
Microscopic Maxwell's equations have been solved for a plane S-polarized monochromatic light wave incident on a slab crystal llf molecules thick. Ihe exciton interactions between molecules are assumed to be of the point dipole type.
The theory deals with the change in exciting electric field with distance from the surfaces in a ri_eorous way. A model calculation is presented to illusmte the way in which the retlection spectrum of a thick crystal evolves from the spectrum of a thin crystal.
