✦ Synopsis

The spectral behaviour of neutral molecules of acridine orange, 3,6diaminoacridine and rhodoamine B dissolved in ethanol has been studied. Contrary to previous conclusions, the neutral molecules do not dimerize in ethanol solutions. The spectral changes. thought to involve dimer-monomer systems, actually occur as a result of acid-base equilibria.
