β¦ Synopsis
Optical properties of CdSe QD-like insertions of different nominal thickness in Zn(S)Se matrix have been investigated at different temperatures. Real absorption spectra extracted from the transmission and reflection spectra have been obtained. It is shown that when the nominal thickness of CdSe increases, the peak in the optical density spectrum, which corresponds to the absorption by QDs, shifts to lower energies and becomes more pronounced. Strain distribution, carrier spectrum and exciton binding energy in disk-like QDs which form a periodic array have been calculated. The results of calculations are used to interprete the obtained experimental data. The calculated positions of the QD absorption maxima are in good agreement with the experimental ones.

Measurements of the optical absorption spectra of the sublimed films of adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine, and uracil were extended down to 120 mp at room temperature. Several remarkable absorption peaks were found to exist below 190 mp in addition to the already known ones near 260 mp and 200 mp.
## Abstract Two novel nβtype conjugated polymers based on perylene diimide (PDI), poly(PDIβvinylene) (PDIV), and poly(PDIβthienylene) (PDITh), have been designed and synthesized by the Stille coupling reaction. In comparison with the PDI monomer (compound M1), PDIV and PDITh films show a significan
