✦ Synopsis

Anions of benaophenone, acetophenone, and 4-hydroxy-benzophenone were produced in ethanol at 4.2% bj steady.7 irradiation. Their absorption spectra are signiticantly different from those obtained in ethanol at 77"K, but change into the same spectra on raising the temperature. The spectra at 4.2"K are due to the presolvated anions of these compounds.

Photoconductivity of localized electrons, which are not solvated, in r-irradiated ethanol glass at 4 K was studied. Photocurrents of lo-l3 A or larger were stably detected in the wavelength range of 900-2200 nm. The wavelength dependence of the photocurrent reveals that pre-solvated electrons probab
