The kinetics of absorption and desorption with a one-dimensional transport are drawn as they are obtained from experiments and calculation, and the profiles of concentration expanded through the thickness of the PU sheet are calculated. The stage of absorption is described by transient diffusion wit

✦ Synopsis
Akstract--The absorption of water at 100C by polyurethane (PU) foam is described by considering transient diffusion with constant diffusivity. Sheets of PU foam are used, with a one-, di-or tri-dimensional transport of water through the sheet. Numerical models, with finite differences, are capable of following the process of absorption with good accuracy in all three cases. Two values of the diffusivity are obtained, the one for the transport through the thickness of the sheet, and the other through the other dimensions, parallel with the plane surface of the sheet.

Polyurethane (PU) foams are made of small cells, regular in shape, which result from the presence of a gas acting as a blowing agent during its formation (carbon dioxide or fluorocarbon). When the PU foam is in contact with water, a matter transfer is observed, water diffusing into the foam. The pre
