Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra have been obtained on mixtures of iodine with lignite and several grades of bituminous coal. Systematic increases in g-value and linewidth were observed with increasing concentration of iodine. The thermal stability of iodine in these mixtures was also i

β¦ Synopsis
The vapor pressure of iodine over mixtures of iodine and various coals has been measured at temperatures of 65-9X. Lignite and bituminous coals exhibit similar behavior in their absorption of iodine whereas the behavior of anthracite coal is different. A region of constant vapor pressure occurs in the reaction between iodine and the bituminous coals and lignite. Complex formation between the iodine and coal is postulated.
