Hydrogen fluoride elimination after IR-multiphoton excitation with pulsed CO;! laser radiation has been studied quantitatively with fluences up to 20 J cm-2 for FCH2CH2CH2C&,, FCH2CH2CH2CH2F, FCDHCH2CH2CH3, and FCDHCH2CH2CHZF. Efficient isotope separation shows that the R-CHDF chromophore can be selected near 930 cm-', in agreement with spectroscopic evidence. The absence of mode-or site-selective$eaction in FCDHCH2CH2CH2F at inert gas pressures up to lo5 Pa leads to a rough estimate for an intramolecular energy redirkribution rate coefficient k,",,> 1 0"-10' ' s-l.
