โฆ Synopsis
Diagnosis is an active research area where many diagnostic methods have been proposed. In this paper, we make explicit the features that characterize these methods within a conventional framework as well as within a neural framework. Specifically, we show that each representation of diagnostic knowledge requires a specific reasoning type whichever framework is adopted, logical or neural. Then, we propose a distributed neural model to mechanize abductive reasoning within a neural framework. Finally, we compare our work with other proposals and indicate directions deserving further investigation. 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
