Transcriber: I knew Ruth Nichols at McMaster University in the early 1970s; she was a lovely fey woman. If you knew her, you knew part of this lovely story. With astonishment I accidentally found a pdf of this first edition, and with happy nostalgia converted it to an ebook.
"Ruth Nichols' novels for young adults are some of the best in the genre of fantasy. Predating Harry Potter by decades, her beautifully written books feature characters with unusual powers, wizards and worlds of wonder where good versus evil play out. These books alone establish Ruth Nichols as a major Canadian writer." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Nichols_(author)
