✦ Synopsis
Viscosity, sedimentation velocity, sedimentation equilibrium, light scattering and osmosis measurements have been made on low molecular weight samples of cellulose in the solvent cadoxen. These measurements complement a comprehensive study of the system in the high molecular weight interval. Combination of the data yields the relationship :
[~/] = 3-85.10-4.117/w °'76, where the coefficients have been determined by the method of least mean squares. Within experimental error, this is coincident with the equation previously given by Henley (v) for the system in the high molecular weight range.
The corresponding sedimentation-molecular weight relationship is : so = l'36.10-z.I'Q °'~.
The data are discussed in terms of recent hydrodynamic theories.
