✦ Synopsis

The development of a block-digital oscillator when the oscillating frequencyf, is very low with respect to the sampling frequencyf, is outlined. Explicit relations for the sensitivity to coefficient quantization, for scaling and for mean-squared round-off error analysis are derived. The principal conclusion is that both the sensitivity and the mean-squared round-off error remain constant and do not depend on the ratio f , / f o . Finally, the block oscillator is compared with the scalar oscillator proposed in Reference 7; some numerical results are also included.

When the frequency of a small amplitude plane wave is varied slowly over a large enough bandwidth and this wave is incident upon a nonlinear oscillator, the resulting perturbed motion can exhibit stochastic behavior. Applications for the study of this system are wide and varied. We apply Lie-transf
