The specific diagnoses of seven species of the digenean family Transversotrematidae are compared, and shown to use differing terminology for the same spination pattern. A quantitative method, based on the notations of morphological crystallography, is suggested for the unambiguous description of tegumental spine patterns. * As pointed out by Prof. H. Crusz the correct name should be T. koliense.
