✦ Synopsis

A sizing technique for photovoltaic systems has been developed by applying Markovian formulation to daily global irradiation data, recorded in Algiers from 1972 to 1982. The principle is based on the processing of these data by the threshold method established in a previous paper [A. Maafi et al., Rev. Phys. Appl. 22, 425 (1987)]. For the threshold value '~ro = 0.46, it is found that a two-state Markov chain fits the irradiation data of Algiers. This allows us to obtain two fundamental parameters in the design of photovoltaic systems. They are namely/~, the mean flux of solar radiation and AE, its deviation characterizing the energy deficit, which are necessary to compute the captation area and the storage capacity.
