The constltutlon and stereochemistry of _1, a yellow trlterpenold pigment isolated from a Somallan collection of the sponge Stelletta 9., has been unequivocally established by spectral and x-ray crystallographic methods. The assignment of trans-T-trans stereochemistry to the trlcycllc nucleus of 1 suggests that the -structures of several recently described trlterpenolds from japsls stelllfera be reassigned.
