✦ Synopsis

background was determined by a linear extrapolation through 10 points without Bragg components. Polarization was set at 100% because of the vertical scattering geometry. Scattering factors and values for anomalous dispersion were taken from the International Tables 1121. No correction for absorp-Oriented linked rings are the prototypical topologically chiral objects. We now report the synthesis of the first isolated topologically chiral catenane,"O1 containing two intertion and extinction. Parameters of refinement: zero-point shift: -0.105; U , V, W, [13]: U=0.129(12); V=O.O33(8), W=0.006(1); R,,=0.0145 (expected: 0.0089). The structure factor table is avaifable on request from the Fachinformationszentrum Energie, Physik, Mathematik GmbH, D-7514 Eggenstein-Leopoldshafen 2 (FRG), on quoting the depository number CSD-53 152, the names of the authors and the journal citation. locked directed rings (Fig. 1).
