## Abstract The microwave‐assisted drying of laminar materials has been studied, and a model is proposed to explain the behavior of these materials under microwave radiation. Different selective heating and drying tests of leather samples have been carried out, and drying curves showed a fast conve

Abstract
In this work, a very simple and accurate model for the microwave‐assisted drying of laminar bodies, based on their dielectric properties, is developed and tested over a laminar material such as leather. Several assumptions are made to simplify the obtained expressions. The results show that the correct determination of the dielectric properties as well as the internal characteristics of the solid are very relevant in order to achieve a correct modeling of the drying process. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
