โœฆ Synopsis

The demographic and social structure of the community/society provide the basis for interactions that lead to satisfactions, subjective well being and the quality of life. Studies are cited that employ elements of social structure in identifying satisfying aspects of the quality of life. Ten propositions are offered that identify theoretical relationships between social structural features and well-being.To improve the quality of life, suggestions for altering the social structure are presented. Keywords quality of life . social structure . domains of the QOL Haggerty et al. (2001, p. 80) outlines systems theory concepts that generate subjective well-being (SWB), Input and throughput influences lead to the output of SWB. The system also accounts for feedback into both input and throughput, providing a dynamic system. Input factors include Environment and Public Policy factors, specifically, Personality, SES, Public Education Services, GDP/Capital, Health Services, Freedom, Income Inequality The structural factors here represented are the institutions of Economy, Education, Health, and Government (freedom). Omitted are the Family, Leisure/Recreation, and the Community (neighborhood, etc.).Two forces produce QOL: Endogenous and exogenous. Endogenous forces include mental, emotional and physiological responses of the individual to its life condition, the output in the Hagerty et al. system. Exogenous forces include the social structure, cultural and social psychological influences of the social environment that impinge upon the individual, group and community.

This paper explores the possibility that social-psychological, evaluative measures of social well-being/quality of life (QOL) perceptions may embody unintended ideological elements. We argue that individual QOL satisfactions are likely caused, in part, by 'satisfactions', or conservative orientation

The person's perception of his or her quality of life has been neglected in studies of mental health in general and anxiety disorders in particular. However, the judgement of the impact of a mental disorder based on symptomatic distress while ignoring one's overall quality of life is incomplete. In
