โœฆ Synopsis

By coupling a consideration of heat transfer into a region of constant shear stress with a temperature-dependent viscosity, it has been shown that viscosity correction ratios of the form introduced by Sieder and Tate [namely (pJpw)"] have a theoretical justification. The index n depends upon whether p(b is greater or less than pW. For heating conditions (p, < pb) n is about 0.1, whilst for cooling conditions (p(, > pb) n is about 0.27. These results and the corresponding result for the effect of variable viscosity on friction factor are in agreement with experimental findings.
