β¦ Synopsis
The yield of an intermediate product in a complex first order reaction system involving both parallel and consecutive reaction paths is studied using a two phase model for fluidised reactor operation. The particulate phase is assumed to be either in plug flow or perfectly mixed and it is shown that the most favourable yields are achieved when the reactor performance approaches the behaviour of the corresponding single phase reactor. The regions of operation approaching this limit are discussed and used to predict the optimum reactor height.

Dynamic experiments provide an opportunity to determine, separately, values of the adsorption and surface reaction rates occurring in a heterogeneous, catalytic reaction. In this method it is not necessary to assume that either adsorption, surface reaction, or desorption controls the rate, in contra
