✦ Synopsis
The calibrated operating range of CARS N2 thermometry has been greatly extended using a novel device which makes it possible to create and maintain small, well-defined, essentially isothermal, volumes of gas. The device, which should find wide application in laser spectroscopic investigations of high-temperature systems, was used to obtain the CARS spectrum of Ns in thermal eq~brium at 3467 K.
