F o r some years the writer has been studying ('lironiosomes iii Paramecium, especially those in P. bursaria. There were found in this species many polyploid races, each having nu- iiiei*ous chromosomes running up to several 11undred.l I n order to ascertain the number of chromosomes in each race, a method of counting them was devised. The writer believes this method might also be useful in studying other organisms having iiumerous chromosomes. The method consists essentially of the use of a special ocular disc in drawing chromosomes, with the drawings made on celluloid sheets.'

The ocular disc is made of optical glass, in the center of wliicli is a square ruled into a number of divisions. Ocular disc type I will be used as a n example. The 3-inn1 square is

Automatic counting of chromosomes by computer is a feasible technique for screening human populations for aneuploidy. This paper presents a system which has been developed around a new lithium-treated chromosome preparation. 35 mm negatives of metaphase chromosome spreads are scanned fully automatic

Responding to Leimkuhler's call for more computer experimentation in informetrics, this numerical study aims to illustrate observed appearances of fractional counts graphs. For instance, assuming a Lotka distribution for articles per author, it shows that for fields in which the singleauthor article
