A technique is described which enables the major reflectionsproduced by apulse in an open plan space to be identified, isolated and their frequency spectra determined. No existing pulse source was.[bund to be completely suitable for this purpose and the paper reports the development o.['a new source which gives a short, clean pulse from a blank cartridge by providing a free combustion zone. An application of the technique to the measurement of the oblique incidence absorption properties of a ceiling is described.
