## Abstract This paper presents a compact electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure and its applications in microstrip bandstop filter designs in the __S__ band. The proposed EBG cell is constructed in a two‐layer dielectric substrate, which saves the lateral sizes due to a multi‐layer topology. A lu

✦ Synopsis
A novel tapered small-size electromagnetic band-gap (S-EBG) microstrip filter structure is proposed and implemented. This structure is comprised of a main 1D microstrip EBG structure and two auxiliary EBG structures arranged in a compact configuration and Chebyshev distribution is adopted to eliminate ripples in the passband. It exhibits an ultrawide stopband with high attenuation and excellent transmission in the passband, yet the circuit area remains small.

## Abstract A novel X‐band broadband bandstop filter (BSF) with sharp cut off frequency is presented, using novel design of periodic electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) dual‐ear (DE) structures on coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line. An equivalent lumped circuit is introduced to model the BSF with
