✦ Synopsis
Cytosolic thioredoxin reductase (TrxR, EC 1.6.4.5) is a FADbound homodimeric oxidoreductase structurally and mechanistically related to glutathione reductase (GR, EC 1.8.1.7). TrxR uses NADPH as an electron donor, and is able to reduce a range of substrates including the physiological thioredoxin (Trx) according to equation (1).
