✦ Synopsis


Two vinyl monomers , vinyl acetate and acrylic acid have been polymerized by exposure to gamma radiation in their pure liquid state. The effects of different doses and dose rates on polymerization have been studied. The reaction rate was found to increase with increasing dose rate. Also, percent of conversion of monomers increases appreciably with dose. The resulting polymers were characterized by FTIR & NMR spectroscopy differential scanning calorimetry and gel permeation chromatography.

These results were used to evaluate the physico -chemical properties of the polymer products.
