✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The thermodynamic properties of the system polystyrene‐ethylcyclohexane (temperature 70°C) were examined between 57 and 80°C for weight fractions of the polymer 0‐0.16. Scholte's light scattering method was used for this purpose. The results are presented in the form of the temperature and concentration dependence of the interaction parameter of the Flory‐Huggins equation. The interaction function thus obtained has been tested by comparing calculated and experimental spinodals. The given system has been compared with a pseudoideal solution in order to discuss the pronounced concentration dependence of the interaction parameter and its dependence on molecular weight.
