A potentlometnc sensor system characterized by a membrane, based on a molecular dlsperslon of certam 4-qumolones and dmctylphthalate as a plastlcizmg solvent mediator m an inert poly(vmy1 chloride) (PVC) support, 1s assessed for the selectlvlty towards clprofloxaan (CF) Ions The electrodes which respond to CF ions have been prepared by coating a silver wire conductor with the PVC based film The preferred system urlth norfloxacm m the membrane shows a linear response with a Nernstlan slope of 54-62 mV/pCF over the range of 1 X 10e4 to 1 X lo-* M solution of CF The electrode exhlbrts good selectwlty with respect to morgamc Ions of bIologIca Importance CF can be determined successfully m its pure solutions and m some pharmaceutical preparatgons using the standard addition technique
