The polymerization of P-pinene with the A1Cl3/SbCl3 binary catalyst was investigated in toluene a t -40°C and was compared with that of a-pinene. The polymerization of P-pinene with AlC13 alone was very rapid and retarded on addition of SbC13, in sharp contrast to that of a-pinene where added SbC13

The effect of water on the cationic polymerization of isohutylene by AIEtCI, in n-heptane has been studied. The condition of complete polymerization inhibition is attained a t [H,O] 5 mol/l. Slow polymerization with an induction period is detected a t [H,O]/[AIEtCI,] 5 1. By means of 2,6-DTBP and 0,
