β¦ Synopsis
Crystal structures, and magnetic, electric, and thermal properties of 6uorite related compounds Ln 3 RuO 7 (Ln β«Ψβ¬ Sm, Eu) have been investigated. For Eu 3 RuO 7 , a magnetic transition due to Ru 5 Ψ ions is found at T N β«Ψβ¬ 22.5 K on the susceptibility+temperature curve. Speci5c heat measurements also exhibit a -type anomaly at the same temperature. The MoK ssbauer spectrum measured at 10 K shows broadening of the line corresponding to magnetic splitting. For Sm 3 RuO 7 , two magnetic anomalies have been observed at 10.5 and 22.5 K from its magnetic susceptibility measurements. Below 22.5 K Ru 5 Ψ ions are antiferromagnetically coupled, and when the temperature is decreased through 10.5 K the ordering of Sm 3 Ψ ions occurs rapidly. Speci5c heat measurements show 5rst-order transition peaks at T β«Ψβ¬ 280 and 190 K for Eu 3 RuO 7 and Sm 3 RuO 7 , respectively. The results of magnetic susceptibility and electric resistivity measurements indicate that these transitions are structural phase transitions.

The magnetic properties of the layered perovskite compounds NaLnTiO 4 (Ln β«Ψβ¬ Sm, Eu, and Gd) are reported. Their dc susceptibilities were measured from 4.5 to 320 K. The MoΒ¨ssbauer spectrum of 151 Eu and the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of Gd 3Ψ were also measured at room temperat
