Abstract
Eu^2+^,Mn^2+^โdoped phosphors in the novel system Ba~1.6~Ca~0.4~P~2~O~7~ were prepared by solidโstate reactions. The photoluminescence (PL) properties of Eu^2+^,Mn^2+^ in Ba~1.6~Ca~0.4~P~2~O~7~ are reported and discussed. The emission spectrum of Ba~1.6~Ca~0.4~P~2~O~7~:0.04Eu^2+^ consists of two distinct broad bands peaking at about 400 and 470โnm, and the excitation spectra exhibit broad band in the range of 250โ400โnm. A broad yellow emission band is observed around 565โnm in a Mn^2+^ singleโdoped sample, and the intensity can be enhanced by codoping with Eu^2+^ ions. Evidence is presented for the energy transfer from Eu^2+^ to Mn^2+^ in this host lattice.
