The characteristics of a gaseous discharge have been studied in the presence of a Iocalised transverse magnetic field applied to a discharge tube. The breakdown voltage and the post breakdown discharge current are found to be dependent on the strength and the position of the applied magnetic field.

A microscopic theory of the effects of dipolar solvents dynamics on the dielectric friction of a rotating dipolar solute is presented. We predict that translational diffusion of solvent molecules can significantly reduce the value of the zero-frequency dielectric friction. We find that the orientati
