✦ Synopsis

A combustion synthesis method was adapted for the efficient preparation of pure barium ferrite particles (BaFe 2 O 4 and BaFe 12 O 19 ). It is based on the exothermic reaction of the corresponding metal nitrates with a reducing agent (ODH or TFTA) and yields extremely fine-grained ashes that readily convert into pure BaFe 2 O 4 and BaFe 12 O 19 when treated thermally. The composition and microstructure of the so-obtained materials were studied by XRD and TEM, and the best synthesis conditions were established.
