✦ Synopsis

In the initial phase of hydration a partial of the total quantity of water in the cement suspension is sorbed on the surface of hydrated particles and the remaining quantity makes free water decidedly influencing rheological properties of suspension. To determine the quantity of sorbed water the results of three methods have been compared using four sorts of cements prepared in the laboratory. It has been found that the most objective results are gained when an ultra-centrifuge is used. The sorptfon characteristics found by this method in a check measuring of the surfaces of cements change in dependence on phase composition unsignificantly, o

The photoacoustic signal strength was measured on a series of similar portland cement pastes dried to different water contents. An optical interference method shows that at early stages of hydration there is a significant increase in size of individual cement grains. The effect of applied hydrostatic pressure on cement pastes is an increase in the degree of hydration. Explanations for these effects are given in terms of the

The cement phases, C3S, C2S, C3A and C4AF of same particle size distribution characteristics were hydrated at a water : solid ratio of 0.45 and their hydration, strength and porosity characteristics were followed from a few days up to 1 year. Significant differences from Bogue-Lerch data were observ
