Abstract

Supercontinuum (SC) pumped by a 10‐GHz active mode‐locked Er^3+^‐doped fiber‐ring laser (AML‐EDFL) has been gained and the characteristics of the optical pulses extracted from SC have been studied. The central wavelength, bandwidth, and shape of the filters will have important effects on the optical pulses' output. Some conclusions about the filters are drawn from using SC as the optical source for a wavelength‐division multiplexing over optical‐time‐division multiplexing (WDM/OTDM) transmission system. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract The numerical solution of a wave equation describing the propagation of the laser pulse of a few optical cycles in fused silica is obtained. Our numerical simulations closely follow the published experimental data. A shifting of the spectrum peak of the broadened pulse, depending on the
